Fitbit Flex

I wanted to share my thoughts on the Fitbit Flex. I purchased mine on April 1st so I have had it for a little over a month now. I absolutely love it. The flex is the one that you wear on your wrist and you sync it to an app on your phone or you can log into a computer and get the information.  It has so many cool features and it is so motivating to see how many steps you are taking each day, the distance your are moving, how many calories you are burning, and how many active minutes you had. I like to use the previous day as motivation to do more the next day. It reads the steps, distance, calories, active minutes and sleep cycle by wearing it on your wrist. The sleep cycle feature is also so cool. It tells you how many times you are restless each night and for how many minutes and how many times you actually wake up and for how long. I thought this was so cool because I was able to see different factors that affected my sleeping pattern. I noticed that on Monday after I went to my yoga class I slept so much better. You can also see how well you sleep if you do a early workout vs. a late workout or some other factors. It also sends you a weekly email of your averages for each category and you can set your own goals for each one. There are also features that you can enter in yourself. You can enter a weight loss amount goal, how many calories you eat throughout the day, and how much water you are drinking. The one thing that I do not understand is the active minutes. I could do a 30 minute workout and when I am done it would say that I only have 3 or 4 active minutes but I could walk around at work or shopping and it will say 10 active minutes. I have tried to do some research on maybe something that I am doing wrong but I can't seem to figure that part out. If you know something I don't, please fill me in!! I would certainly recommend it to anyone that is looking into buying one! I hope this helps!

Love,
Jessica

Happy Easter!

I wanted to wish all of you a Happy Easter! I have had the perfect day that started with a 6:00am sunrise service with my mom. She and I had a nice breakfast afterwards. We had an egg drop in youth (the female youth leaders totally had the best design to keep the egg from breaking) and a great message in service today! After church, Tyler and I got to celebrate with our friend for her birthday.

We should all take time everyday to remember that the ultimate price was paid for us and that Jesus is very much alive in our lives today! He wants to be received in your heart and work so many miracles in your life. Let Him! Pastor was so right when he said it doesn't get much better than people publicly accepting Christ into their heart and as their Lord and Savior! We had so many people accept Christ at church this morning and it makes my heart pretty happy.

I hope each of your Easters were perfect and was well spent with family, friends, and good food :)

Clean Eating Recipes

Here are a couple of recipes I think sound great! I haven't gotten around to making all of these but I will let you know what I think when I do!

Layered Hummus Dip
Ingredients: 1 box 5oz of tabbouleh
2 tbsp olive oil
1 cup diced cucumber
1 cup diced and seeded tomato
2 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 c fresh parsley chopped
2 10oz containers of hummus ( I like the Sabra Brand)
8 oz crumbled feta cheese
Food should taste good tortilla chips

Make Tabbouleh according to the package directions.
Add olive oil, cucumber, tomato, lemon juice, salt and parsley and fluff with a fork.
Spread hummus into the bottom of a 9x13 dish, scatter half of the feta cheese on top.
Layer on Tabbouleh mixture and sprinkle remaining feta cheese on top and refrigerate.

Apple Cinnamon Mason Jar OatmealIngredients:

1/4 cup uncooked old fashioned rolled oats
1/3 cup almond milk
1/4 cup low fat greek yogurt
1 1/2 teaspoons dried chia seeds
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon honey
1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce or enough to fill the jar.

In a 1/2 pint jar or 1 cup jar put in the oats, milk, greek yogurt, chia seeds, cinnamon and honey.  Put the lid on and shake that up!  Open up the jar and add in the applesauce to the top, cover and shake.  Refrigerate overnight or up to 2 days. Eat chilled!

Grilled Chicken Wrap
Ingredients
Whole wheat tortilla
low fat hummus
grilled chicken slices
lettuce
tomato

feta cheese

Preparation:
Spread hummus on a whole grain tortilla. Next, slice grilled chicken thin and place on the wrap. Top with lettuce, tomato, feta cheese and any other veggies that you like. If I have extra roasted red peppers and onions I will put them on top as well.

Taco Salad
Ingredients:
Ground Turkey
Taco Seasoning
1 medium yellow onion, diced
1 avocado diced
1 cup corn cooked
1 can black beans cooked
green onions sliced
greek yogurt
spinach or other greens
balsamic vinegar
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Red peppers chopped
Directions:
Heat a non stick skillet over medium high heat and brown the turkey and onion until no longer pink.  Drain meat and put back in the pan.  Add in 1/4 cup water and the taco seasoning mix.  Stir until covered.  In the meantime, cut up the green onions, red peppers and avocado.  Assemble lettuce on the plate and layer with corn, beans, avocado, ground turkey, a dollup of greek yogurt, then put a splash of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar on top for dressing!

Welcome to my fitness journey!

Hey! I am seriously so excited right now about so many different things! First off, I have ALWAYS wanted to make a blog but never had anything important to talk about. Now I have so many great and important things to talk about. Fitness and nutrition! I am excited to tell you about the fitness journey I am currently on and hopefully inspire some of you to get fit and stay fit for life.

I started my fitness journey last August by joining a local gym. I went off and on for a little while but then started going everyday for awhile. I always felt like I never knew what I was doing. I also went with friends and will admit I may have done more socializing than intense working out. I researched workouts online all the time but just felt like I wasn't doing them right or they weren't doing what I wanted. My fitness goals were not to lose weight but to tone up and be fit and to learn how to incorporate exercise into every day. Can I just say how much of a pet peeve it is when I mention working out and people reply with "you don't need to work out, you are skinny enough." That could not be more false. I DO need to work out as well as eat clean and eat correctly.

I had heard about Beachbody only a handful of times and mostly because of my cousin, Amanda, who is my coach. I had looked into all of the packages that included the workout DVD's and Shakeology and my initial thought was that they were wayyyy too expensive. Without doing much research, I just did not think that there was any way those package deals could be worth the money. Boy was I wrong!

I had really been going back and forth about ordering one of them because I really loved the idea of doing my workouts at home instead of going to the local gym. I somehow ended up talking to a girl at church who had just recently ordered the T25 package that came with the Shakeology. Getting to talk with more than one person first hand that was happy with Shakeology and their Beachbody workout program made me decide to go ahead and order The 21 Day Fix.

I have been doing The 21 Day Fix since February and I am absolutely in love with it. It comes with containers to teach you about portion size and basically does all of the work for you when it comes to figuring out what to eat and how much. I have noticed too since starting this program and starting Shakeology that I have so much more energy! Before I started working out, I had terrible posture to be so young and awful back pain pretty much constantly. Since starting this program, my posture has improved tremendously and my back seems much stronger so less back pain! Of course, I am much stronger all over and can see toning going on in my stomach and butt.

I am currently doing a challenge group for The 21 Day Fix and I love it so much that I decided to become a Beachbody coach (yayyy!). I am on day 13! I will post before and after pictures when I am done and keep you all updated on my progress. I am hoping to eventually do all of the Beachbody programs and I hope you will look into Beachbody and Shakeology too!

Love,
Jessica
